PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
